> **Summary:** A GA4 landing page report shows performance by the first page of each session: how many sessions started there, how engaged they were, and how often they converted. It tells you which pages to improve, which to promote, and which bring traffic that never converts.

Build a GA4 landing page report: sessions, engagement rate, key event rate and revenue per entry page, with the API fields, a sample table and setup steps.

## Who this report is for

Content and growth marketers, CRO specialists and agencies deciding which entry pages deserve rewrites, internal links or paid promotion.

## What the report includes

*Metrics and dimensions in this report*

| Metric | Source field | Why it matters |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Landing page | landingPage | Path of the first page in the session (without query string), so UTM-tagged variants roll up together. |
| Landing page + query string | landingPagePlusQueryString | Use when you need to separate campaign or test variants of the same URL. |
| Sessions | sessions | How many visits started on the page. |
| Engagement rate | engagementRate | Share of those sessions that engaged; low values flag mismatched intent or slow pages. |
| Bounce rate | bounceRate | 1 − engagement rate in GA4, included because many stakeholders still ask for it. |
| Session key event rate | sessionKeyEventRate | Share of sessions from the page that completed a key event. |
| Average session duration | averageSessionDuration | Supporting signal for long-form content where a quick exit isn't a failure. |
| Revenue | totalRevenue | For stores, which entry pages start sessions that buy. |

## How to build it in Better Analyst from Google Analytics

1. In Better Analyst, open Connectors, choose Add Connector, then Google Analytics.
2. Click Connect with Google and sign in with an account that has Viewer or Admin access to the GA4 property. Better Analyst requests read-only access.
3. Pick the GA4 account and property from the dropdowns and click Connect. Universal Analytics properties are not supported.
4. Ask for landing pages with at least a minimum number of sessions (for example 200 last month) so tiny pages don't dominate the rankings.
5. Ask Better Analyst to add each page's change versus the previous period and flag pages whose key event rate is below the site average.

## Questions to ask

- “Show the top 25 landing pages by sessions last month with engagement rate, key event rate and revenue.”
- “Which landing pages with over 500 sessions have the lowest key event rate?”
- “Bounce rate by landing page for organic search traffic only.”
- “Which blog posts send the most sessions that later convert?”

## Sample output

Sample data for illustration, not real account data.

*Sample data: landing pages, last 30 days (illustrative)*

| Landing page | Sessions | Engagement rate | Key events | Key event rate |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| / | 12,840 | 59.4% | 398 | 3.1% |
| /pricing | 4,210 | 71.8% | 362 | 8.6% |
| /blog/inventory-forecasting | 9,630 | 44.2% | 77 | 0.8% |
| /features/reporting | 2,980 | 63.5% | 149 | 5.0% |

## Charts to use

- **Sessions vs key event rate** (Scatter plot): Each landing page by traffic (x) and conversion rate (y), highlighting high-traffic, low-converting pages.
- **Top landing pages** (Table with data bars): Sessions, engagement and key event rate with bars for quick scanning.

## Keep it up to date

A weekly scheduled task can send the landing page table every Monday; an alert can flag when the pricing page's key event rate falls below a threshold you set.

## Frequently asked questions

### Where is the landing page report in GA4?

GA4 includes a Landing page report under Engagement in many properties, and you can build one in Explorations. Through the Data API, use the landingPage or landingPagePlusQueryString dimension.

### Why do I see (not set) as a landing page?

It usually appears for sessions that started without a page_view event, for example when a session times out and resumes with another event, or with tagging issues. Filter it out of rankings but keep an eye on its size.

### Should I use landingPage or landingPagePlusQueryString?

Use landingPage for most reports so UTM parameters don't split one page into many rows. Switch to the query-string version only to compare campaign or A/B variants.
