> **Summary:** A keyword cannibalization report finds Search Console queries where two or more of your pages get meaningful impressions, so they compete with each other and often both rank lower. Pulling query and page together, it shows each page's share of clicks and position so you can merge, redirect or re-target the weaker one.

Find keyword cannibalization in Search Console: queries where several of your pages split impressions and clicks, with fields, a sample report and fixes.

## Who this report is for

SEO specialists and content teams on sites with many similar articles, product variants or location pages, where overlapping pages are common.

## What the report includes

*Metrics and dimensions in this report*

| Metric | Source field | Why it matters |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Query | query | The search term two or more pages are competing for. |
| Page | page | Each competing URL; query plus page together reveal the overlap. |
| Impressions | impressions | Shows how visibility is split across the competing pages. |
| Clicks | clicks | Shows which page searchers actually choose. |
| Average position | position | Pages flipping positions for the same query are a classic cannibalization sign. |

3. Select the URL-prefix or domain property you want to report on and click Connect.
4. Ask for query and page together over the last 3 months, keeping queries with at least 100 impressions.
5. Ask Better Analyst to keep queries where two or more pages each have at least 10% of the query's impressions, and to show each page's share of clicks.

## Questions to ask

- “Find queries where two or more of our pages each get at least 10% of impressions.”
- “For 'budget template', show each ranking page with clicks, impressions and average position.”
- “Which cannibalized queries have the most total impressions?”
- “List page pairs that compete on more than five queries.”

## Sample output

Sample data for illustration, not real account data.

*Sample data: one cannibalized query (illustrative)*

| Query | Page | Impressions | Clicks | Avg position | Click share |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| monthly budget template | /templates/monthly-budget | 21,400 | 642 | 6.2 | 71.0% |
| monthly budget template | /blog/how-to-make-a-budget | 13,900 | 190 | 9.8 | 21.0% |
| monthly budget template | /templates/business-budget | 4,100 | 72 | 14.3 | 8.0% |

## Charts to use

- **Impression split per query** (100% stacked bar chart): For each cannibalized query, how impressions divide among the competing pages.
- **Position over time** (Line chart): Each competing page's weekly position for one query, revealing flip-flopping.

## Keep it up to date

Rerun the report monthly as a scheduled task after publishing new content, since new articles are the most common source of fresh overlaps.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is it always bad when two pages rank for the same query?

No. If both rank well and serve different intents, for example a template and a how-to guide, it can be fine. It's a problem when they split clicks and both sit lower than a single strong page would.

### How do I fix keyword cannibalization?

Merge the weaker page into the stronger one and redirect it, or re-target the weaker page at a different query and update internal links and titles so the preferred page is clear.

### Why do I need query and page together?

Query-only reports hide which URL ranked; page-only reports hide the query overlap. Requesting both dimensions in one Search Console query shows the split.
