Using AI Agents

Apply Agents to chats and Tasks, combine a Lead with specialists, and understand versions, reference files, workspaces, and instruction priority.

You can start a chat from the Agents library or select Agents from the chat customization panel.

Apply an Agent

From the Agents Library

  1. Open Agents.
  2. Find a personal, team, or Better Analyst starter Agent.
  3. Choose Use agent.
  4. Add data and ask your question.

From a Chat

  1. Open the chat customization panel.
  2. Open Agents.
  3. Select one or more Agents.
  4. Reorder them if needed, then continue the conversation.

The selected Agents remain attached to that chat until you change or remove them.

Lead and Specialist Agents

You can combine up to five Agents:

  • The first Agent is the Lead.
  • Agents after it are specialists.
  • The Lead supplies the primary instructions and presentation defaults.
  • Specialists contribute only guidance relevant to the current task.
  • Earlier specialists take priority over later specialists when their guidance conflicts.

Reorder the selection to change which Agent leads. For example, make a Forecast Agent the Lead and add a Data Quality Agent as a specialist when you want forecasting decisions to drive the deliverable while retaining extra validation checks.

Instruction Priority

Better Analyst resolves guidance in this order:

  1. Platform and application constraints
  2. Your latest explicit request
  3. Typed chat controls, such as an explicit Brand Kit choice
  4. The Lead Agent
  5. Relevant specialists in selection order
  6. Better Analyst defaults

This means you can say “keep this answer concise” even when the Lead normally prefers detailed explanations.

Brand Kits with Agents

The Lead Agent controls the Agent-level Brand Kit behavior:

  • Use a specific Brand Kit: use the Agent's fixed kit
  • No Brand Kit: produce unbranded results unless the chat explicitly selects a kit

A chat-level choice comes first. Select a kit in chat when you want to override the Lead Agent. See the complete Brand Kit precedence guide.

Versions and Existing Chats

When Agents are applied, the chat stores a snapshot of their published configuration. As a result:

  • Editing or deleting an Agent does not rewrite prior chat behavior.
  • Publishing changes affects future Agent selections.
  • Start a new chat or reapply the Agent when you want its newest published configuration.

The snapshot includes the Agent's reusable reference-file manifest. Editing the saved Agent does not silently add, remove, or replace reference files in an existing chat.

Use an Agent in a Task

Open a saved personal or team Agent and find its Tasks section. It lists Tasks where the Agent participates and identifies whether it leads or acts as a specialist.

Choose New task to start a Task with that Agent as the Lead. The Lead supplies the primary instructions, output preferences, and fixed Brand Kit behavior for each run. Add specialists when the recurring workflow needs additional expertise or checks.

Personal, Team, and Starter Agents

  • Starter Agents are read-only and can be used immediately or duplicated.
  • Personal Agents can be edited, duplicated, or moved to an active team when allowed.
  • Team Agents are available only within their team workspace and follow team permissions.

An Agent with a fixed personal Brand Kit cannot be moved directly into a team that cannot access that kit. Remove the fixed kit or choose a team Brand Kit first.

Troubleshooting

An Agent Is Missing

Confirm that you are in the same personal or team workspace as the Agent. Workspace switches remove selections that are not accessible in the new workspace.

Changes Do Not Appear in an Existing Chat

Existing chats keep frozen Agent settings. Start a new chat or reapply the Agent after publishing the new version.

The Wrong Agent Is Leading

Open the Agent selector and move the intended Agent to the first position.

Branding Is Different Than Expected

Check for a per-chat Brand Kit choice first, then the Lead Agent's fixed Brand Kit.

A Reference File Is Missing

Confirm that the file is still available in the Agent's personal or team workspace and that the workspace's plan supports Agent reference files. Publish Agent changes, then start a new chat or reapply the Agent to use the updated reference-file set.
