Better Analyst for Slack

Ask data questions in Slack, get tables, charts, and files in the thread, and send scheduled reports to channels and DMs.

Better Analyst for Slack brings your data analyst into the conversations your team is already having. Mention @Better Analyst in a channel or send it a direct message, and the answer lands in the thread with tables, charts, and files. Scheduled tasks can post their reports to a channel or send them as DMs.

Ask in a channel, and the answer, chart, and files arrive in the thread.

Max and Business plans

Slack is included with the Max and Business plans, which include a shared team workspace. A team owner or admin who is also an admin or owner of your Slack workspace connects it once for the whole team.

What You Can Do

  • Ask in channels. Mention @Better Analyst in any channel it has been added to. Follow-up questions in the same thread continue the same analysis.
  • Ask in direct messages. Send the app a DM to ask privately in Slack. The chat is still saved in your team's Better Analyst workspace.
  • Bring files. Attach a CSV or spreadsheet to the message that mentions Better Analyst, or add files and data sources with Manage data.
  • Choose agents, a brand kit, and a chart experience. Use Customize under any answer to change which agents, brand kit, and chart experience (Editable or Classic) the thread uses.
  • Get scheduled reports in Slack. Tasks can post each run to a channel or send it as a DM, with a short summary up top and the full report in the thread.

How It Works

  1. An admin connects Slack from Better Analyst and chooses which data sources Slack may use.
  2. Each person connects their Slack account the first time they ask a question.
  3. Questions run in Better Analyst with that person's access, using the data sources the admin allowed.
  4. The answer is posted to the thread. Open in Better Analyst opens the full chat.

Slack runs Better Analyst in Ask mode: it answers questions and creates charts, tables, and files. Dashboards, Data Flows, and enrichment are built in the web app.
