Slack Troubleshooting

Fix common Slack issues, from connecting the workspace to reports that didn't post.

"Only a Slack workspace admin or owner can connect Better Analyst"

Connecting a workspace requires a Slack workspace admin or owner who is also an owner or admin of your Better Analyst team. Ask a Slack admin to connect it from Integrations → Slack.

"This Slack workspace is already connected to another Better Analyst team"

A Slack workspace connects to one team. Disconnect it from the other team first, or ask that team's admin to.

"Org-wide Enterprise Grid installs aren't supported yet"

Install Better Analyst into a single workspace instead of the whole organization.

Better Analyst Asks Me to Connect My Account

Each person connects their Slack account once. Select Connect account and follow the steps in Connect your Slack account.

Better Analyst Doesn't Respond in a Channel

  • Mention @Better Analyst in the message. It doesn't read messages without a mention.
  • Make sure the app is in the channel: /invite @Better Analyst.
  • Better Analyst doesn't answer in channels shared with other organizations yet. Ask in a DM or an internal channel.

"This chat now uses a data source that isn't enabled for Slack"

The chat gained a data source in the web app that Slack can't use. Continue it in Better Analyst, or ask an admin to allow the source under Data sources in Slack settings. Sources with per-viewer row-level security and Power BI connections can't be used in Slack.

I Can't Ask a Follow-Up in Someone Else's Thread

Only the person who started a thread can continue it. Start your own thread by mentioning @Better Analyst in a new message.

A Scheduled Report Didn't Post

Check the task's Recent runs list:

  • Channel post failed: Better Analyst may have been removed from the channel, or the channel was archived or deleted. Invite it back or choose another channel in the task's schedule.
  • Channel post skipped: a data source in the task isn't enabled for Slack.

The task owner also gets a DM or email explaining what happened.

Slack DMs Went Out by Email Instead

People who haven't connected their Slack account get the report by email. Once they connect, they get DMs.
