Email and Slack Delivery

Choose who gets an alert by email, post alerts to a Slack channel, and fix delivery when a recipient or channel changes.

An alert can send an email, post to a Slack channel, or both. Choose where it goes in the Notify section of the alert form. Each notification names the alert, the condition, the latest value, and the periods that met the condition, with a link to the alert's page.

Personal Workspace

In your personal workspace, an alert emails you. You can't add other people or Slack.

To email teammates or post to Slack, set up the alert in a team workspace:

  • If you're on a team, select Move this chat to a team in the alert form, or use Move to team on the chat. The chat moves to the team along with copies of its data sources and files. In the team workspace, open the chat and select Create alert again. Tables fetched before the move need to be fetched again; the alert form offers Fetch it again.
  • If you're not on a team yet, select Create a team. Team workspaces are part of the Max and Business plans.

Email in a Team Workspace

In a team workspace, choose the teammates who get the email. Until you choose someone, the email goes to you. One alert can email up to 20 people, and everyone must be a member of the team.

When someone leaves the team, they're removed from the team's alerts automatically. If that leaves an alert with no one to notify, its page shows No one (edit to choose). Edit the alert to choose new recipients.

Slack

In a team workspace with Slack connected, an alert can post to one Slack channel. Pick a channel in Slack channel. Only channels @Better Analyst has been invited to are listed, so invite it to a channel first if you don't see it.

Once a Slack channel is chosen, you can turn Email off. An alert always keeps at least one way to notify.

To connect Slack for your team, see Install and set up Slack.

When Slack Stops Working

If Better Analyst can't post to the channel, the alert shows Needs attention, and its page explains what to fix:

ProblemWhat to do
The channel was archived or deleted, or @Better Analyst was removed from itInvite @Better Analyst back to the channel, or edit the alert and choose another channel
Slack was disconnected from the teamReconnect Slack, or edit the alert and choose another channel

The alert keeps checking and emailing while it needs attention. It returns to Active once a post to Slack goes through again or you save a different channel.
