Install and Set Up Slack

Connect your Slack workspace to your Better Analyst team, choose which data sources Slack can use, and set defaults for new Slack chats.

An admin connects Slack once for the whole team. After that, anyone on the team can ask Better Analyst questions from Slack.

Requirements

  • A Better Analyst Max or Business plan, used in its team workspace. Slack isn't available in personal workspaces.
  • You're an owner or admin of the Better Analyst team.
  • You're an admin or owner of the Slack workspace. Regular Slack members can't connect a workspace, so nobody can claim your company's Slack for their own team.
  • A single Slack workspace. Org-wide Enterprise Grid installs aren't supported yet; install into one workspace instead.

Each Better Analyst team connects to one Slack workspace, and each Slack workspace connects to one team.

Setup Steps

1. Open Slack Settings

Select Chat with your data in Slack in the sidebar, just above your plan details, or Slack Agent under Tools. You can also go to Integrations → Slack directly.

2. Add Better Analyst to Slack

Select Add to Slack. Slack shows the permissions Better Analyst needs; review them and select Allow. You return to Better Analyst with Slack connected.

3. Choose Data Sources

Under Data sources, choose which of your team's data sources Slack may use, and which ones new Slack chats start with. People can add allowed sources to a thread later with Manage data.

Some sources can't be used in Slack:

  • Sources with per-viewer row-level security, because an answer posted in a channel is visible to everyone there.
  • Power BI connections.

4. Set Defaults for New Slack Chats

Under Defaults for new Slack chats, choose the agents and brand kit every new Slack question starts with. People can change them in a thread with Customize.

5. Invite Better Analyst to Channels

In Slack, add the app to each channel where your team should be able to ask questions:

/invite @Better Analyst

Direct messages work right away and don't need an invite.

Linked People

The Linked people list shows who has connected their Slack account. Admins can unlink anyone; that person's Slack questions stop until they connect again.

Disconnect Slack

Select Disconnect to remove the app from your Slack workspace. Chats that started in Slack stay in Better Analyst.
