Manage Alerts
Review an alert's history, send a test, edit its rule and delivery, and pause, resume, or delete it.
Select Alerts in the sidebar to see every alert in the current workspace. Each row shows the alert's rule, what it watches, how often it checks, when it last fired, and its status. Select an alert to open its page.
The Alert Page
The alert page shows:
- Watching: the table or Data Flow the alert checks. For an alert on a flow, select it to open the flow.
- Checked and Next check: how often the alert checks and when it checks next.
- Last alert: when it last fired.
- Notifies: email, the Slack channel, or both.
- How many alerts the rule would have sent over the previous 90 days, as of when it was saved.
History
History lists every time the alert fired and every test you sent, newest first. Each row shows:
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Type | Alert for a real notification, or Test for a test send, with whether the condition was met |
| Sent | When it was sent |
| Period | The day, week, or month that was checked |
| Value | The metric for that period |
| Compared with | The previous period's value, for change conditions |
| Notification | Whether the email was sent and the Slack post went through |
Alerts split by a segment also show which value each row is for.
Send a Test
Select Send test to see what the alert would say for the latest complete period, even if the condition isn't met. The test email goes only to you, and the Slack test posts in the alert's channel. Both are marked as a test.
After the test, a message tells you whether that period met your condition, so you know whether a real alert would go out. Tests appear in History with the Test label and never count as the alert firing. You can send up to 5 tests in 10 minutes.
Edit an Alert
Select Edit to change anything after creation: the metric, condition, segments, filters, name, recipients, Slack channel, check time, time zone, and late-data wait. The form shows the preview again, so you can see how often the updated rule would have fired before you save.
When you change the rule, the next check starts from the most recent complete period, like a new alert.
Pause and Resume
Select Pause to stop checks and notifications. A paused alert doesn't count toward your plan's active alert limit.
Select Resume to turn it back on. Resuming needs a free slot in your plan's limit. The first check after resuming looks only at the most recent complete period, so you don't get alerts for the time it was paused.
Status
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | The alert checks on schedule |
| Paused | You paused it; it doesn't check |
| Needs attention | Something needs fixing, such as a Slack channel the alert can no longer post to. See Delivery |
| Columns changed | A column the rule uses is no longer in the data. Edit the alert to choose columns that exist, or rebuild the table |
| Source deleted | The data the alert watched was deleted. Create a new alert |
Delete an Alert
Select Delete and confirm. Deleting stops all checks and deletes the alert's history. Deleting an alert on a Data Flow doesn't delete the flow.
In a Team
The list follows the project you pick in the project switcher. See Projects. Only the person who created an alert, or an owner or admin, can change, publish, or delete it. See Roles & Permissions.
